MOM : BOLLYWOOD MUSIC REVIEW

We in India tend to forget that the film music composers are giving us film music albums and not their own music albums.I always hear my friends say ARR hasnt done well in this album when they dont get any melodious love song or a rock/metal rhythm song etc. I thought I will review MOM movie's music (more of a first impression really) and see what happens..

O Sona Tere Liye: A typical ARR adagio melody about a mom's wishes for her daughter that slowly grows on you with an enduring quality. Yes we have heard it before but the way he blows freshness in to every song is amazing: It was the same window; It was the Same season; It was evening again; but today the wind was magically different!

Kooke Kawn: An interesting attempt/experiment.  It has the energy of a party song and interesting 'crow calls' but I am not sure why it fell flat to me personally..May be I have to listen more to start to like it but it's not in my 'now playing' list for now .

Freaky Life: A typical urban teen's aspiration/attitude to break free from all the constraints/traditions around her..She keeps at it... hitting it again n again till she could free herself from her own freaky life.

Raakh Baaki: A stubborn, unyielding inner voice's recital which is raw and un-harmonised along with electronic elements.. gives a good idea of inner voice of the character. It took me a few hearing to get used to the background beats.. The beats clearly gives it a flow for the bigger plot unraveling on the screen. One of many background sound tracks that has been released in the album.

Maafi Mushkil: Another recital a bit more like melodic prose/sentences presenting a bleak hopeless situation but could there be light at the end of the tunnel? or is it really bleak? Again you can clearly imagine the music as a accompaniment for the bigger plot unraveling on the screen  .

Chal Kahin duur: As is obvious from the lyrics, the character finally finds the inner strength, the hope is finally emitting from inside her and no one matters now apart from herself and she wants to go faaaaaar away from everything...ARR sir uses Piano and Strings to tell most of the story intially and my fav moment is when flute (winds) enter to give a beautiful feeling along with Shasha's toxicating voice.

benazaara: An Indian traditional composition that will just blow you away in its own typical style wherin it comes to the point straight way and then typically  repeats it emphatically again an again (without boring) till it makes its point beyond any doubt and leaves you spellbound. This is what I like about Indian classical music. No counterpoint, no harmony yet so beautiful colours and richly decorated(I have no idea about the type of the classical music this belongs and worst yet I dont know when it's part of the scale or when he is improvising :) )

Overal, MOM's music is fresh as always with ARR signature and some tracks may require a bit of listening to get used to it . My fav is the melody 'O sona tere liye'. which is as melodious as it can get while the rest of the album is everything but it.
