The Cricket-The beautiful game

It was late 1990s('98 or '99).As the clock went past 8 I became fidgety as I had to go to school before 9:00.No not because I did not finish my homework.(Somedays I eluded, got punished some other days, but it never corncerned me(that I did not finish my homework) or occupied my mind). There was some other reason that day.Ding Ding!'Cycle bell Sound'...Sound which I had been waiting to hear,The guy who distribute the dailies!Ya, I had been waiting for 'The Hindu' that day because that was the only way I knew what happened the previous day at the final of the India's premier(and historic) domestic competition The Ranji Trophy(named after Shri.Ranjit Singhji a great batsman(played for England) and a King during the 1900s). During those days there were no full time commited Indian news channels like today (which has opinion on almost anything and everything) and cricket's market was stil in its infant stage and there was no comprehensive coverage of the dome

A study of past recessions

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2009/01/26/business/economy/20090126-recessions-graphic.html A very informative link which studies all the major recession(in US) since the great depression! The theory of keynes's (keynesian economics) in combating recession which supports the circulation of money by goverment (bu buying or reducing rates) was titled not pragmatic as it virtually had no effect during the recession in 1960 till the economy recovered, was again endorsed in 1980 when Reagan reduced the regulations and introduced tax cut which increased the spending and it(increased spending) led to recovery the very next year.(In 1960 it had taken a lot of time to have effect). The credit crunch in 1990 caused by the tight monetary policy (to combat the rising inflation) was again restored when Alan(then fed Chairman) cut the federal funds rate several times(sometimes boldly as Glen Hubbard puts it :) ).It was the same story(in combating) in 2001 when GDP falls though this tim

[Movie Review] Love aaj kal-review.

Here comes August 1.What do u think?yet another month? No yet another movie :)...Well, it just happens to be a new month.Actually its a saturday, another weekend and after silent rumination I could not help but consent my hearts avid desire for (yet another) a movie. It may even even sound asinine (to some of u) how I still have not lost interest given the trite or banal nature of these films. But thats the way my heart goes and thats the way I go... :) Cogitating over the options available I sieved '17 again' and Love aaj kal(a hindi movie).'17 again' sounded like another teen/romance sort of a movie with Zac Effron effect which would make most girls scream[atleast in their hearts :)... and girls,if this is not you dont bother] while 'Love aaj kal' sounded like yet another feel good soft romantic movie and guess what i chose? Ya, am not gay!(just for laughs,no offense) So here I am,yet another week end,yet another movie. The movie opened with ostentatious Deepik

[Poem]My Dream

Image
Musing over the scene at my window, Gliding blithely,my predilection (for them) I admit, But Lying am I?I am not jealous. For eon i can enjoy them, And their insouciance appeals every time (Lying am I?)But I am not jealous. Fecundating the barren, bringing hilarity to the scores, scenting the air out of nothing like a magician, Still am I lying,Am I jealous? Under the aegis of no one and never being adjured, They go any where they please, taking any shape And I wonder,Am I jealous? What an effortless cruise it might have been, As they fall blithely from the acme(of clouds), Again I wonder,Why not I be jealous? No woes,No pain,No grief, No course,No mission, nothing Now I wonder,if I am jealous? For I wish I were like you, You carefree rain drops, truly blessed to bless And now you know why i am jealous. I know well life is no fairy tale and even more so The adage,no rose without thorns,But this I sincerely wish that The scene at my window was real.

[Poem]Ah how I wish...(A very simple free style poem)

We met again now And I wish she knew how She made me feel cold With feelings I never knew I had Seeing her leave I feel so bald Ah how i wish I had told... Helpless for i am caught up in sea, Depth I know not though i could see, Its clear, the destination and the course, But its getting heavy the pain, hunger and remorse, That my eyeballs hide which you know not neither he, Ah how I wish she was here to share... A movie like my life goes,an unfortunate sad one, So unfair yet no one to complain and I, I cry in vain (am not a hero) just let me live. I feel I never belong here Like odd one out living here and there, Ah how I wish someone knew what it is like to be ME! Note:This is just another simple poem off the top of my head.Resemblance to anyone is purely/merely a coincidence and any inconvinence is regretted! Thanks :)

Its DC Vs BRC for one final time!

The battle lines are drawn and the stage is set for the final of this season of IPL as DC takes on BRC!You cant say that they were the 2 best teams of the tournament but these 2 teams have certainly performed when it mattered and they deserve to be here. Being a sports fan I had a disappointing last week seeing both Liverpool and Punjab being knocked out of contention. In Liverpool's case it was a mere disappointment after having had a consistent run in the league after abt....i dnt remember....8-9 years? But Punjab came so close needing just 117 runs to win against Chennai but their batting let them down yet again on a challenging 2 paced pitch.Personally IPL is not the same without Punjab :-( .And RR,who also had the same concern with bat gave KKR their second consecutive (consolation) win after a shabby performance with the bat but were fighting till the end and it required a spirited display by Agarkar to see them through. Anyway the 4 better teams(DC,DD,BRC,CSK) qualifie

IPL at its best!!Dnt miss this week!

Half way in to the crucial week which decides the 4 semifinalist, tables have turned yet again and the very interesting thing abt this tournament is that every team looks beatable and given the un predictable nature of the T20 it just adds more sheen to it..Sadly some of it was darkened last weekend by even more un predictable power cut :).But it strikes during Punjab's match with remarkable accuracy :(.I had to follow almost entire King's XI chase in my cell(on friday) and also a few overs in the middle during Deccan's innings on sunday. That last over by I.Pathan to R.Sharma in full flow(and had done it the day before) was awesome and to win it by one run was wonderful. It reminded me of T20 WC final! I can only feel for KKR team/staff and srk.Especially for a succesful celebrity like srk,it shd have been really difficult to see his team fail badly after all those profesional set up from CEO to coach. For players,it should be very difficult to motivate themselves for the

IPL heading in to an exciting (last) week!

It is getting very exciting as we head in to the last week of the IPL and still any of the 6 teams(except Delhi&KKR) are in the running for the remaning 3 semi final spots after Delhi has already qualified. The last 2 days saw 3 very closely fought matches which could have gone either way and still the table is finely balanced! With the gap closing and teams swaping positions with every match I guess some *heart breaks* are in store for some teams this week! On Wed(13/5/09) DC looked well set to win the match till Symonds and Gilli where going in full flow but lost track in the end to loose by 12 runs against Delhi.Yesterday Hayden was in his elements as usual(he has amassed 486 @ an amazing avg of 48.6 so far..) as Chennai got off to a flier yet again but when he left the crease with Chennai at 101/4 off 13 Overs they collapsed to 129 which was chased down by BRC(thanks mainly to Taylor and V.Kohli) with 2 balls to spare but certainly it was not as easy as it looked on the score

BRC,MI move up the table.

After reading a bit too much stuff about some of the craziest languages in software over the past 2 days, well definitely not as crazy as English where your noses(should this be singular? help me...*english freaks*) run and feet smell, pronunciations based on their origin, the way u read the same word determines tense....sigh..I am not good at hitting the bulls eye,am I? I dont know if you want me to, but somehow am getting carried away..but that is not your concern,is it?Atleast I guess I should not be corncerned abt it..actually I am not!But what should be the point of concern is that you have not yet got the point(if u r concerned abt the point/message)!Dont think you have missed it because you have not!I just let myself got carried away, deep.(*spur of the moment* thing)!Let this be a vague start!we will discuss the match in the next para! After being little bit stressed over the past couple of days(which I guess is already evident :) ) I was hoping for a good win for Punjab which wo

Guess what?KKR did it(lost) again and MI overtake BRC!

Like they say in million songs "Love will find a way" ,KKR involuntarily seems to be finding new ways to loose the match :( !Today they messed up in batting and would have lost badly if it was not for Agarkar(39 off 29 balls) whose late heroics gave themselves something to defend(123 runs). The only (other) batsman to contribute in the top order was Ganguly who made 44 off 45 balls! DD (in good form) started well (50 in 6.2 overs) and was cruising from there...For a brief moment in the 9 th over when I.Sharma got 2 wickets KKR seemed like making a match out of it but DD were too good.AB Devillers was unbeaten on 40 and karthick was on 17 as they won by 7 wickets with 3 overs to spare. Earlier in the day BRC met MI in an important match.Though Sachin fell without scoring and Jayasuriya after making 29, Rahane and Duminy played well making a 100 plus unbeaten partnership as they set a target of 158.In reply for BRC no one went on to make a big contribution except Boucher who m

Punjab won a real close thriller while CSK maintained their winning streak!

Today Punjab and DC played their important match in the tournament in terms of league table...(pts),well perhaps not as important as the white pebbles which the place is very famous for (or is it?) but predicting a winner (till the last few balls) was as difficult as locating one(in a mine field here) as the IPL caravan rolls on to Kimberly(place known for diamond rush in the 18th century)! It was more like a neck-and-neck sprint race with either team (seemed like) leading for a brief moment before it became even again and in the end it was an exhausted Punjab which crossed the line first! After putting them in to bat,Punjab never let them(DC) get away by picking up regular wickets. They(DC) had slipped to 73/4 when Symonds came in with a new look[new(no) hair do] but was at his old typical best bludgeoning 60 off 36 balls to help them post 168 and it looked like DC was in charge after the initial hiccup! Sohal gave a blistering(but brief) start for Punjab to even things out yet again bu

An (closer but) easy win for Delhi!

How many times have you seen a wicket falling in the first ball/over?Just add one more to it because that exactly what happened today as MI had a shaky start yet again loosing both their openers Ronchi and Duminy(new opening pair) in the first over.Bravo is the only one to get past 20 as he made 35 and with wickets falling at regular intervals they could manage only 116! Delhi (chasing a small total) started cautiously but both Warner and Gambhir got out before the stratergic break but Devillers and Dilshan carried the innings even as the required runrate climbed and with 5 overs remaining and 43 runs required Sachin decided to spin a few(taking a cue from Dhoni's book?may be).But he never hit the right length! It was either too full or too short as Devillers took 19 off that over and with that(24 req off 24 balls) Delhi cruised to win with 7 balls to spare!De villers made 50 off 38 balls. It was an uneventful day in general! Now with almost 55-60 % of the race being over/completedD

One very ordinary game(BRC Vs RR) and another great game(PKXI Vs CSK) !

I did not have plesant memories of CSK Vs PKXI encounters [personally, its more like a local derby for me :) ]as I still remember being the lone disappointed man to see Punjab knocked out by CSK(in semis last year ) even as my friends celebrate! This game though was really a good match still did not erase those memories(Urgh)!!In fact it was when Chennai took on Punjab for the first time(last year) that I discovered(felt) that I am more a Punjab fan than a Chennai fan(Dont ask me why...Honestly, I dnt knw :( ,may be because Punjab has more of my fav players than Chennai... ] Set a target of 186 in 18 overs(by CSK) who would have fancied them(Punjab) chasing it down...Honestly,not me!I thought that they(Punjab) let Dhoni n Hayden get away in the last few overs as they got abt 10/20 runs extra. But what a chase by Punjab! The total which (always) looked huge gradually became manageable(via some poor fielding by CSK) and with 43 required off 24 balls,(and 2 set batsman in the crease)for

DC beat MI!

DC and MI played their 8th match today as they continue their ( very tight) race for the top 4 spots in the semifinal!Gilli calling the correct side of the coin at the toss chose to bat and watched from other end as Gibbs returned back to pavilion (in the 2nd over) yet again without making any runs!DC innings was kind of a collective effort by their batsman with no real big innings, the highest was R.Sharma's 38 as they posted 145! Defending 146 DC's best chances were when they get MI's explosive openers early and that was exactly what they got(thanks to R.P Singh) with both of them back in the hut as early as the 2nd over!Just when Game seems slipping away from Deccan as Duminy and Shah got going they(Deccan) came back by picking up P.Shah just before the strategic break and the game was evenly poised at the break with MI at 71/3.After the break it seems like Mumbai had the game in the bag @ 97/3 in the 14th over but when Bravo fell to a needless shot it got interesting aga

Comprehensive wins for Delhi and RR!

I guess this is probably the most disappointing day(personally) in this season of IPL!I was lucky enough to miss the RR's pounding of King's XI bowlers and (more) unfortunate to see them(Punjab) go down without a fight in reply and (even more) bored right now which is the main reason I have started writing[typing :) ] already even as Gambhir brings up his fifty(DD Vs KKR) with a smack over long off!It seems like DD(121/1) is well in controll as they still need 35 off 26 balls![I guess I have to wait for the match to finish to finish off this post :)] RR Vs Punjab RR's top order finally got off to a good start(in their 8th match) and Smith and N.Ojha ensured that they make it up for all the poor starts earlier as the good (start) got better and better to even better(great?) as they put on 135 in 14.5 Overs and hit Punjab so badly before they could realise!Jadeja,Y.Pathan,Carsdeline who followed just carried on the good work with cameos as they went past 200(a 200 plus targ

A dramatic but easy win for CSK!

The scorers should have been less busy for the first time in the day (after Chennai posted a big total of 178 on board) when the top 3 DC batsman left without troubling them much(out for zero) as Chennai got an ideal start restricting the explosive DC top order to 1/3 in the 3rd over!DC were in the game for a brief moment till Smith(49 off 23 balls) n R.Sharma were in the crease but once they were dismissed (by Jakati) it was game over! Earlier Chennai opting to bat got off to a flier with Hayden and Vijay and never looked back from there as Dhoni(58) and Raina(32) carried on from where Hayden left.To summarise,it was an entertaining, hard (n big)hitting innings from Chennai as they ended at 178!Chennai didnt make life easier for themselves while defending by some poor(n funny @ times) catch misses and a school cricket kind of run out miss[trust me it was really funny] but it looked trivial in the end(in hindsight)! Thats it!a 3rd straight win in a row puts them on top spot for the f

BRC,Punjab move up the table!

uff!!Probably the second closest game in this edition of IPL!The gap was about a few centimeters (btw bat n ball) as M.Jayawardene played well under an Agarkar's snorter(a climbing short delivery) and the equation became 6 needed off 4 balls. He was able to get bat on ball on the next delivery though not where he would have liked but still (much to the dismay of KKR) ball took the outside edge and reached the fence on 3rd man!Mahela could not put the next delivery,a low full toss away(a dot ball) and now 2 needed off 2!Singles off the next 2 balls help them(Punjab) post their 4th victory! Earlier Hodge yet again played a major role (70 off 43) in ensuring KKR reach 153 as they were going along in just about 6 RPO till abt the 15th over before Hodge accelarated! In reply Sanagakara (who Opened with Sohal) went without scoring but a few lusty blows by Sohal and Katich's 34 help them reach 81/3.After the break they went along at about run a ball speed and when Yuvi fell for (almost

Deccan,Delhi's progress checked!

A barbie doll in a saree(too childish/girlish eh?)oK Ok!say Arnold in a soft (intense) romantic role?(or Arnold without his gun??)My point is that, thats how (out of place) I felt when I first heard of M.Vijay in the (Chennai)T20 team as I thought him as a solid opening batsman (with tight defense sort of batsman) but he never looked at sea in the brief stay he had in the crease and was timing fluently! With a few Intl' players unavailable and few others coming back (and with injuries) it will be interesting to see how the balance of the teams gets affected! Back to the match,Chennai put in to bat by Gambhir posted 163 with good(but short) innings from Hayden n Raina and a fluent innings from badrinath. They once threaten to score big but once Badri. departed no one was there to anchor the innings and lost their way!In reply DD Opening with Gambhir n Warner (Sehwag injured) did not had the best of start loosing Gambhir,Devillers and Dishan and were struggling at 52/3 in 7 overs wh

BRC and Mumbai win good close low scoring games!

With 9(runs) needed off 3 balls,I.Pathan(having hit a boundary earlier in the over) tried to win it for Punjab with a huge hit, but he could hit the full toss from P.Kumar only as far as Kohli(standing) at long on and abt a minute later it was the terrible sound which do not please any batsman, the sound of timbre as the stumps were disturbed and this time it was Chawla walking back and what a tragedy [for Punjab fans]...anti climax! Punjab was well in control from the start on (yet another) a slow pitch with BRC at 84/6 in the 13th over with almost the entire top order back in the hut as Yuvi completed a hatrick but a cameo from Van Der Merve helped them post 145! With Bopara returning to England for International duty,Katich got his chance today but Yuvi decided to open nd Katich moved to middle order!Punjab got off to a good start (given the target @7.25RPO) but Yuvi who was set,(disappointingly)top edged a sweep off Kumble to mid wicket, and departed after making 50 in the 10 ov

Day 13-Delhi beats Deccan while Chennai pipped RR later!

DC Vs DD Gilli n Gibbs both fell early as Deccan failed to get a good start for once and no one played a big innings except for a hard hitting D.Smith which helped them reach 148 which never looked enough but once Sehwag n Gambhir fell(after getting start) followed by De villers game was evenly balanced till abt the time out but good innings by Dilshan and Karthick ensured that they win easily in the end with 8 balls to spare! CSK vs RR: Chennai were struggling at 17/2 (in the 4 over) when this promising 22 yr old (from U.P) came in and was timing the ball well straight away on a pitch where the highest(in the whole match) any one could manage(other than Raina) was R.Jadeja(37 off 33 balls).Raina fell short of (a well deserved) century by just 2 runs as Chennai posted a challenging 164!Raina made 98 off 55 balls. Chasing 165 Smith departed early and when Asnodkar re arranged the stumps with his bat (to be out,hit wicket) RR had yet again failed to make a good start scoring less than

Day 12--Back to back thrillers!!

About 500 meters(approx.) run...*a huge sigh*!!followed by hugs!!Guess who??P.Zinda! :) No she is not shooting for another romance scene in a movie!!This is not fake!!This is happening in real life...Her team has just defended 119 runs succesfully against Mumbai!!What a treat for Punjab fans...No wonder Priety, watching the game from the stands ran all the way to hug the players!! What a game!a low scoring thriller!Only Sangakara(for Punjab) ad Duminy (for Mumbai) got himself in on a dual paced pitch which assisted spinners!Sangakara made a run a ball 44 as they posted 119 off 20 overs! In reply Duminy carried the Mumbai innings together and almost won it for them with a big hit in the last over but was caught near the boundary off Y.Abdulla(at deep mid wicket)!Mumbai lost by 3 runs!yet another impressive performance by (local boy)Y.Abdulla! Earlier in the day BRC and KKR played out another close match!KKR got off to a decent start(45 off 6 overs) but once Hodge departed they lost mo

IPL Day 11--Delhi finally beaten...(by)an Yusuf show!!

Just like a typical (90s) bollywood movie where the hero makes an late but in time (right time) appearence on screen to save the heroin/kill the villian, Yusuf came in as the game was getting away from Rajastan and played his typical (big hitting) innings to help RR chase down 144 in just over 18 overs. Earlier Sehwag choosing to bat after winning the toss (yet again) got out without making a huge impact and at one stage they were struggling at 49/4 in 8th over but (in form) De villers, vettori stitched a good partnership and a late cameo by Manhas help them set 144. RR's top order has been fragile through out the tournament and it failed yet again except for a sensible Smith who hung in there despite wickets falling at the other end till Yusuf came in (late) and stole the show!Yusuf made a dashing 62 off 30 while Smith made (almost) a run a ball 44 as they reached the target in 18.3 overs! RR bt DD by 5 wickets!

IPL Day 10--Deccan getting away from the rest even as Mumbai chase...

CSK Vs DC With the equation at 8 runs needed off 6 balls, game looked set for an interesting finish but it was (almost) game over as Gibbs cleared the next ball to the fence..Its funny how quickly a game change, but Deccan seems to be the team to beat! Both Chennai n Deccan's innings kind of went very similar with both teams getting off to flier and then wickets in the middle overs(off slow bowlers) pegged them back before ending with late surge and in the end the difference was the fluent innings from Gibbs(69 notout) who ensured that runs were coming at one end (carried his bat thro) while in Chennai's innings at one point (12th over)Dhoni n Hayden fell in space of 4 balls leaving 2 new batsman in the crease(Oram n Morkel) who took time to get going...thats where(i felt) Chennai lost momentum! MI Vs KKR The second match of the day saw Mumbai meet KKR!And what an entertaining innings from Sachin and Jayasuriya! Its always wonderful to watch when Sachin gets going and tonight whe

IPL Day 9(26/4/09)--Delhi,Punjab win

K.Goel watched the dreadful sight before he could get inside the crease...stumps getting dislodged at the non strikers end and he has to return to pavilion without even facing a ball!Ya,Rajastan couldnt have had a better start(a run out off the the first ball )and it got even worse(for Punjab) when Bopara,Yuvi n Mahela fell quickly to leave them tattering at 48/4 in 9th over! But Pathan and Sangakara kept them in the game with some good batting to set a target of 140. The 140 run target (though looks small) was going to be tricky as the pitch was kinda slow paced and showed signs of weariness. If the Punjab's start was worst then Royals start was a nightmare loosing all the top order(42 for 6) in the 9 th over before Jadeja n Warne got together.Sensible batting from both only saw them closing the victory gap as the win (kinda) looked inevitable!Punjab won by 27 runs and it was their bowlers turn this time to ensure victory! Earlier in the day a (desperate) Blore took on a(rampha

While Punjab got on board on day 7 Deccan stayed on top on day 8

Clear skies welcomed King's XI in Durban for a change and thats not the first time in the day that things went according to their wish.Punjab, keeping wickets in hand never panicked while chasing down an challenging total of 169! After Pieterson chose to bat Uthapa fell early (without troubling the scorers) but Ryder and Kallis got them off to a flier but they were pegged back when Ryder and Pieterson fell quickly as they reach 71/3 off 10 overs. After the break Dravid(uncharacteristicaly) skied one from Chawla to mid on but a well made 62 by Kallis and 35 by Taylor propel them on to 169. Punjab started cautiously as they reached 50 in 6.1 overs.Soon after Goel fell but Bopara who got his eye in made it big scoring 84 while Sangakara n Yuvi played around him as they chased down 169.Once the required runrate reached 12 RPO(as they took it easy against Kumble w/o giving him any wicket) but Bopara n Yuvi stayed cool and put the bad balls away to score an easy win

IPL day 6[24/04/09]--The best day of cricket (yet)...

Oh my gosh!!what a day of cricket....Ya we had the first tie in IPL. (unfortunately) I thought rain is going to ruin(yet again) the RR Vs KKR match after seeing the initial shower and prefered to watch a movie :(..Came back just in time to see the Super over where Yusuf was too good!I could not wait to see the highlights :) Earlier in the day we had another close match where two batting heavyweights (atleast on paper) Delhi and Chennai squared off...Delhi had the worst possible start loosing both their openers Gambhir ad Viru but Dilshan and AB Devillers sizzled on a belter of a pitch (hitting through the line and driving on the up) Devillers went on to make the first century in this edition of IPL.Dilshan made 50 as they set an imposing target of 190. If at all they(Chennai) have a chance to chase it down they knew they need a good start and they were off straight away flourishing to 57 off 5 overs when Patel fell to young Sangwan and things looked well in control @ 106/2 o

IPL day 5(22/04/09--)Deccans(bulls) on the charge...

On day 5 it was the 2 teams who had a disappointing run in the last edition (but promising more in this edition already) Deccan and Blore.Deccans were off straight away in the top gear with Gibbs n Gillchrist(Gilli) to 46 in (little less than) 4 overs before Gibbs fell trapped before wicket playing across the line to P.Kumar.Though wickets fell on the one end a smashing 71 from Gilli and a classy 50 from Rohit helped Deccan reach 184.Deccan innings(Gilli's big hits,Rohit picking his spot....) was entertaining.. Blore innings never got off(as they would have liked) as they loose wickets at regular intervals to reach 62/4 in 10 Overs...Late surge from Dravid and V.Kohli helped them come close but they were never gonna chase it down afer that poor start...so thats it! Another win for Deccan puts them on the top of the league table..And now that almost all teams played 2 matches and has got atleast a point already(except Punjab) is a good sign (for a competitive league) from

IPL day 4-Rain had the last laugh...

One big difference in this edition (from the last which was kind of bang bang cricket..) that is very evident already is the even contest between bat n ball n even spinners play major role on these (traditionally) seamer friendly wickets and so it was, when Punjab's Kings XI(PK XI) took on Kolkatta's KR(KKR). After the initial cameo by Pathan it was left to Sangakara n Yuvraj(Yuvi) to consolidate...Just when they looked well set to accelarate Sangakara got run out and in the next over Yuvi miscued a pull shot to deep mid wicket and with late flourish from Jayawardene they posted 158 . The beauty of these sporting wickets is that even totals of 130s,120s can be defended and so the chase is always going to be tricky..But when Gayle got going all of a sudden even huge totals look small...They were 79/1 off 10 overs when rain stopped play(not for the first time) and they were ahead of their D/L target by 11 runs and were declared winners! I missed the Kolkatta's c

Day 3-20/04/09..Yet another one sided game..

Today it was Chennai against Blore.Match starts off with an entertaining lightning knock by Hayden getting Chennai off to a flyer as they raced to 106 off 10 overs before the "stratergic timeout" (yet again) broke the momentum helping Blore to comeback with 2 wickets in 2 balls' .. This timeout(due to comercial factor) really seems unfair to the batsman bcoz they have to start all over again its very frustrating especially when u have the momentum with u like Chennai had today...With the business value of the game booming rapidly (like software industry once did) I wouldnt be surprised if i watch the final of the next edition of IPL in a multiplex near my house :) !If u r following the game long enough I dnt have to tell u that the game's potential(business end) has grown exponentially over the last few years reaching new heights never reached before attracting billionaires..and the trend continues with some new concepts like these...Especially this IPL seems to ha

IPL II-Day 2(19/04/09)--a 5 over [cricket ?] match...

I always felt that T20 is not a test of cricketing skills. It should be accepted for the entertainment factor and the money it brings to the game n (may be) take the game global..(into Europe, middle east...). After all who cares these days abt still head, footwork, body balance n all...all they love to see is balls sailing over the fence n stumps uprooted! Its funny (to think nw) one Day matches(60 overs) were thought to be unfair when it was introduced in early 70's to get a game within a day.. But its official now...Delhi scored 58 off 4.5 overs to register their first win against a(helpless) Punjab who has hardly done anything wrong but was outplayed so easily.ya (sadly) thats where the cricketing world is heading n u wud be left behind if u do not adapt....This (soccer style) franchise model tournament is a big hit n the money it brings is so over whelming that they had to go through with (so called) stratergic mid innings break even on a curtailed game of 12 overs... [feels

IPl II diary--T20 exhibition! finally got under way..(18/04/09)

Yay...after all the controversies, talks, scheduling pblms, security concerns IPL II finally got underway under the overcast skies at newlands, capetown with the 2 old warhorses Sanath n sachin taking strike on a wet pitch against the tall seamer Gony!Ya, 't was Chennai Vs Mumbai.. The match was uneventful...with most strugling for timing n some not at their best(still rusty may be) and Mumbai (kind of) cruised to victory by 19 runs with Chennai never threatening to chase down 165 made by Mumbai. Second match was much more entertaining with Blore losing early wickets then recovering well (thro Dravid) to competitive 133 and then bundled out Rajas. for 58 with Kumble scalping 5 ...It was also nice to see some drifters, wily turners from Shane Warne again after long time..Its always a great sight to see spinners containing batsman...This is the first time in T20 that I have seen a chasing team been outplayed so comprehesively! Mumbai bt chennai by 19 runs Rajastan lost to blore by 7
