[Movie Review]Yet another (movie) treat..have u guessed it?

Though, these days in real life am very bored, the reel stories I have been seeing on screen of late have been quite exemplary.Last week I told you abt how my 'Avatar' dream was a visual spectacle and today was yet another treat but this time the difference is that Selvaraghavan took me on a journey back in time to meet the Cholas of the 12th century and the journey was brutal with hidden dangers like spate of snakes, indigenous tribes etc and it was washed with blood and more blood!Ya,the journey was 'Aayirathil Oruvan'.

There are lots of things new about this movie which is very refreshing to see in Tamil cinema(Kollywood).[I dont know why but i like it as 'Tamil cinema' rather than kollywood].The first thing was the genre which (I would say) was history/war/fiction genre. The next refreshing thing to see was that it was not a hero/heroine(2 heroines) going on this dangerous journey, romancing along the way but rather this is 3 different characters(A forrest officer-R.Sen,an archeologist-Andrea and a coolie(karthi) who come together by chance and they stay together purely for their survival, being driven by different objectives.

The fictional story is based on the ancient chozha-pandya rivalry and it has it twists and surprises. So watch it with zero knowledge on the story. The first half of the movie is like a real adventure into the jungle with unknown danger while the second half is kind of an ancient art exhibition of war, traditions etc..Moreover alomst the entire script in the second half is in ancient/literary Tamil which many might not have heard before unless they had Tamil as their first language in school. It was good to see the ancient war really shot beautifully but I have to say background score was a bit cacophonus often leaving me irritated as much as the 2 female leads were pleasing on the screen.

The highlight of the movie was the initial few mins of the second half when you feel like you yourself got caught up there among the charcoal-coloured chozhas with no idea what was going on untill things fell into place a bit later, the direction and story telling was awesome. And yes being a Selvaraghavan's movie it has to be commonsense to expect lewd jokes and so it was througout the first half.It was thoroughly entertaining but then the decent people like you may not enjoy it like the young couple sitting near me who were staring at me like "Havent you seen any thing or any girls lke this before??". Well,it's funny how they(ppl) are all the same! :)

Coming back to the movie as I said Reema Sen and Andrea were pleasing on the eyes throughout and Andrea was really wasted in the second half as she was just standing as an odd girl out among the charcoal-coloured chozhas but then the story was such and he couldnt have helped it.Karthi's performance was really good and so was that of Reema sen's and Parthiban's.A real entertaining adventure which I have hardly seen before in Tamil cinema.

And to talk abt music, though songs were good(even there was a full instrumental music for 5 mins in second half which was nice) but the background score was a bit dissapointing.Being loud and harsh may not always give a grand feel rather it only jar on your nerves more often than not.And at times visual graphics were quite apparent but to talk about scenes being borowed from/inspired from other famous Hollywood movies would be really harsh on the movie team as an effort of this magnitude really sounds commendable.Hats off to Selvaraghavan and the whole crew! And the best you could do is watch it on the big screen, kind of giving the team a big thank u!LOL..am I marketing? :-)

Coming to my one liner on the movie I would say it's like a famous hollwood celebrity coming to your house on Indian attires, speaking Tamil!Trust me,it may happen only as often as the solar eclipse we witnessed recently! :)
