Pakistan Cricket-where a 'Haiti' like disaster strikes almost everyday!

(Writern for sportskeeda.com)
It's a cliched saying in the educational institutions or by Counselors working on your confidence "You are talented and you have a very good potential and you will do well if you concentrate and work hard". Well, it may well be the advice that Pakistan cricket badly needs at the moment!
Yes, Pakistan Cricket’s problem is perennial and just never seems to be ending. Unlike some countries like West Indies where there’s a serious dearth of talent, Pakistan seems to be enjoying a regular supply of young talents . And if their colts’ performance in the recently concluded U19 world cup (where they finished runner up to Australia) is any indication, there’s going to be no stoppage in the supply of good talent in the near future. Infact, of late ,their performance in the tournament has been quite exemplerary, when they had won twice and came second once in the last four editions.
Blessed with such good young talents, you would naturally expect them to do well on the international circuit. Unfortunately for world cricket, that has not been the case. Pakistan’s cricket board management has been one of the worst examples for management. How else can you explain ‘a captain for a series’ theory? How good is a team if they find that they will be led by a new captain every time they wake up? Frequent new faces could unsettle even a good cohesive group. I feel it’s high time they stick to a settled group be it the manager or the captain or the playing squad.
This is also the only country where you can hear absurd comments like ‘Younis accused of match-fixing’. It(match fixing allegations) was sensible in the case of Jadeja and Azhar as it was made public in a legalistic way with Police having all the right reasons and evidences. But how do u decide after seeing a match that they under performed? With no real evidence and perhaps just for a (fancy) thought of a few in the power, a sports committe in the Parliament was questioning Younis, when the committe should be addressing other critical issues in the country. The whole matter did not help anyone, Younis (personally) or Pakistan’s cricket or the nation’s image!
The factions within the team are apparent with the recent reports of rift over the captain (Yousuf) and the coach (before the final ODI against Australia) and the subsequent resignation of the chief selector. So it should be of paramount significance for them to settle all the differences over a meeting. Then, unanimously pick a squad(including non-playing staffs) and stick with them atleast till the world cup. Also an autonomous selection panel with a pre-specified lifetime will give them a lot more freedom. The board should not interfere unless there’s a sustained failure over a period of time.
Another major issue for the nation’s cricket board has been the ban on conducting international matches in pakistan.PCB would have been a lot richer had the terrorists been more lenient. But you cant worry about things you can’t control and it’s high time they strike a chord with neighbouring boards and find a neutral venue to play Test cricket for a long term. Pakistan’s lack of cricket matches clearly showed in the recent series where their batting collapsed more frequently than the number of new faces they had recently. They surely would have been a great team had they been playing regularly.
As in any other nations, with media you are never really sure what you are going to get. They chose to give low profile to the news that Pakistan’s players were struggling to get No objection certificate(NOC) from their board to play in IPL and no one really cared . But now that they had been shunned by the IPL franchisees has been played on a conspicuous cacaphonus note by the media has even attracted the attention of the Union Ministers. It’s amazing what media could do.Ya,It’s unfortunate that we wont be able to see Pakistani players in IPL.But I felt that they reacted a bit too late on the issue.A more responsible media would definetly help any nation, especially pakistan where a cricketing disaster occurs almost everyday.
Personally,I have thoroughly enjoyed the huge emotions and the passions involved in a Ind-Pak series . As much as I want to see Yuvraj flaying Afridi carelessly over the fence,I am sure every Pakistani would love to see Asif uprooting Sachin’s off-stump.We want quality cricket. We want to see a world class pakistan side performing consistently. PCB are you listening?
